Hey All!
What's happening? Looks like some people are coming to the conclusion that school HAS NOT ENDED! Yup. You're still in school. That means we need to measure your learning. You see, the people who care about you are the ones who MEASURE your improvement. Long jump? Yup. We measure that. Math? Yup. We measure that. How do you know you're improving? You measure. You hold yourself to a higher standard. If you don't measure, how do you know you're improving? Wanting to improve is abstract. Measurement is real.
Now, some of you might wonder, "Is Khan all there is?" Well. for now, yes. That and the journal. As I've said many times throughout the year, school is a model built on ideas relevant in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. What's the new model? What changed? The 21st century enjoys increased speed of and access to the internet. (Just ask Amazon shoppers, right Alisa?)
Now, don't straight up believe that the internet, or any learning management system (LMS) is perfect. They are not. If you check out "How to Squat" on YouTube (because you won't find that on Khan, yet) you'll see so many sources discussing and demonstrating numerous techniques. How do we know which source is the most valuable, and reliable? That product is a result of trial and error, experimentation and documentation, pause and reflect. in other words, the value of the results you achieve depend on what you believe is valuable. Me? I just enjoy learning new ideas and making connections.
That's it for now 514. I'll be on campus this Friday, May 8, even though I'm in two high risk groups. Just want to make sure you know, that you should be making the effort to improve yourself. Start. Now. Attitude is everything. What's yours?
