Hi Everybody!
What's happening? I know, I know, what's the deal with reopening? I hear you. What about school? Yup. I hear you on that too. The truth is, nobody knows. You know why? It's the familiar story of math and science versus feelings and beliefs.
Math and science are measurable. They represent a knowable, quantifiable reality. Beliefs and feelings are just the opposite. You can say, "It's hot today!" That's an opinion, a personal belief. However, if you say, "It's 110 degrees today." That is a measurement.
So, we have scientists that say cases of the virus are increasing, but the death rates are decreasing. That's mathematically true. Nonetheless, people interpret that to mean the virus is subsiding, so they feel we should reopen. This is where the science versus beliefs becomes complicated.
If you open, you will expose more people to the virus. Does your right to move freely, return to school, play, sports, events, mean more to you than my safety means to me? How does that fit with personal responsibility and social responsibility? Now we are discussing beliefs again.
Round and round we go, because half the people believe in math and science, and the other half do not. What do you think?
